CAMILLA LOVERIDGE
Visual Arist
Welcome to camillaloveridge.com. As a visual artist, largely examining the human form in different contexts, I invite you to explore my work below.

ARTIST BIO
As an undergraduate, Camilla majored in Printmaking, then studied education and taught Visual Arts in secondary schools in Western Australia and in Papua New Guinea for several years. She has an MCA and presently conducts her own arts practice. Camilla has also taught Visual Arts to adults with disabilities at TAFE in Western Australia, and continues as an arts worker in this field at DADAA in Fremantle, WA.
Camilla has exhibited in Perth, interstate and overseas. She has received awards for her work, and is represented in collections in Australia and abroad. She participates in art prizes to engage with other practitioners, and to connect with the public at large.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Drawing has always been my passion. As a young printmaker, I realized my commitment to the aesthetics that are inherent of a mark on a ground or a surface. Over the years, figurative as well as non-representational drawing became my major means of investigation and expression.
Currently, my practice examines the “materiality” of drawing and painting as a sensory experience and association. I often work upon fragile substrates, which include delicate polymer “skins” and wax, layered to record the passage of time and yet striving towards a sense of “presence”. A trip to India as an International Artist in Residence in Delhi in 2016 provided me with much inspiration, as I have responded in recent works to the heart, the grit and the layers of that city in “skins” and wax.
My practice is process driven, as I excavate and rework surfaces to create atmospheric pictorial spaces that also expose my own emotional space. I am particularly influenced at the moment by the drawing practices of Kikki Smith and Avis Newman, in their engagement with materials and their pictorial associations with the materials they use.
